Championship Weekend: Day One Preview

We are a few days away from SAAC’s Championship Weekend at Centennial Stadium. All SAAC Academies have put in a tremendous amount of work on and off the pitch to prepare for this weekend and we would like to congratulate all of them for getting this far! With that said, let’s have a look at the match-ups on ‘Day One.’


U15 Male:  vs. 

The opening match of Championship Weekend is a U15 match between Spring Champions Toronto Skillz and Fall Champions Rush Canada. Rush Canada come into the match with an unbeaten record, claiming 10 wins out of 10 in the Fall season. Meanwhile, Toronto Skillz finished the Spring season with a strong record of eight wins, one loss and one draw. In their last match-up, Rush Canada defeated Toronto Skillz by a score of 5-0. Kick-off begins at 9:30 AM.

U16 Male: vs. 

Next up, Spring Champions ANB Futbol look to defeat last years U16 Cup Champion, Power FC in the Academy Cup Final. ANB finished the Spring season unbeaten, with a record of seven wins and three draws. On the other hand, Power FC also put up an impressive Fall campaign, winning eight games with one loss and one draw. In their last match-up, ANB defeated Power by a score of 5-1. Kick off begins at 11:30 AM.

U17 Male: vs. 

We follow that up with Spring Champions FC Durham taking on Fall Champions Sigma FC – B2. Last year, EuroStar won the U17 Academy Cup, so we will be getting a new Cup Champion this season! FC Durham went unbeaten in the fall season, picking up seven wins and three draws. Not to be outdone, Sigma FC finished the Fall campaign with eight wins and two losses. In their last match-up, FC Durham defeated Sigma FC by a score of 5-2. Kick-off begins at 1:30 PM.

U20 Male: vs. 

Finally, we wrap up ‘Day One’ of Championship Weekend with Spring Champions Sigma FC – B1 taking on Fall Champions ANB Futbol in the U20 Academy Cup Final. Sigma FC went undefeated in the Spring season, picking up eight wins and two draws. Meanwhile, ANB also collected an impressive record of eight wins and two draws. In their last match-up, ANB defeated Sigma FC by a score of 3-1. Kick-off begins at 3:30.

SAAC Spring Results

SAAC News Release:

As another enthralling spring season in SAAC comes to a close, it is time to announce the champions in each respective division. We would like to thank all SAAC Academies for participating and making it another spring season to remember.

U14 – Male 

Rush Canada has taken the crown after being two points back prior to the last game of the season. It was down to the wire, but they secured the title with a win over Premier SI on August 21.

U14 – Female

Congratulations to FC Durham Academy for finishing first place this year. They finished the season with an undefeated record of five-wins and two-draws.

U15 – Male 

Congratulations to Toronto Skillz for finishing first place this year. Finishing the season with an overall record of eight-wins, one-loss and one-draw is quite the feat. FC Durham can pull into a tie with Skillz if they take a win over ANB Futbol, but Toronto Skillz hold the tiebreaker with a 2-1 win over FC Durham.

U16 – Male 

Congratulations to ANB Futbol for finishing first place this year. ANB went undefeated with seven-wins and three-draws during the course of the season.

U16 – Female

Congratulations to FC Durham for a stellar season! It came down to the last game of the season, but FC Durham was able to edge out Rush Canada to become this years U16 Female Champions. They finished with a record of eight-wins, one-tie and one-loss.

U17 – Male 

Congratulations to FC Durham for finishing in the top spot this year. An error was recently fixed to the final standings. It was a close race between Durham and Eurostar, but with a record of seven-wins and three-draws, they were able to cement themselves at the top of the table.

U20 – Male 

Congratulations to Sigma FC for finishing in the top spot this year. Maintaining an undefeated record of eight-wins and two-draws is a great accomplishment. Well done!


Sigma FC making waves



SAAC Charter Academy Sigma FC has been front and centre in Canadian Soccer news this off-season.

Last week the CSA named its roster for the CONCACAF Men’s U20 FIFA World Cup Qualifying tournament in Jamaica. Two Sigma Academy grads – Cyle Larin and Chris Nanco – were named to the squad hoping to qualify for the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Larin followed this up by signing a Generation Adidas Contract with MLS. Cyle is expected to be a top two pick in the MLS SuperDraft to be held January 15 in Philadelphia.

Today, Men’s National Team Head Coach named his squad for theteam’s first camp of 2015.  Included in the squad are Manjrekar James and Jonathan Grant, two former Academy players with Sigma FC. The camp will include two international friendlies vs Iceland.

A native of Brampton Ontario, Cyle Larin has been a member of Sigma FC since 2006 where he started as a 11 year old. Larin split his time between UConn and Sigma, where he featured in the academy’s inaugural season in League1 Ontario. 2014 was also the year where Larin made his debut with the senior Canadian national team, being called up by head coach Benito Floro to numerous camps and friendlies including the October 2014 friendly versus Colombia.

Chris Nanco is a Junior at Syracuse University and is one of the original members of SIGMA FC starting in 2007. Over the years he has had the opportunity to represent Canada at the U17 World Cup in 2011 and train at some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.

Jonathan Grant has been with Sigma since 2009. He is a technical player with speed and an ability to beat players at will. He played with Sigma FC’s League1 Ontario side in 2014.

Manjrekar James is a 6-foot-4 defender from North York, who came to train with Sigma as a 16 year old. He previously been on trial in Spain with Real Mallorca of the Spain’s La Liga, and later spent time training at SC Paderborn 1st team of the Bundesliga 2. He is currently playing in the Hungarian First Division with Pécsi Mecsek Football Club
