Canadian GK Signs With French Ligue 2 Club

September, 2017 (RELEASE) – Nikola (Niko) Curcija (2001 born) has committed to an offer presented by French Ligue 2 club, Le Havre AC, to join its famous academy in the U17 program.  The tall (6’ 5”) goalkeeper recently attended a one-week trial after club scouts and coaches saw his play in the most recent ANB Futbol International ID Camp in June, 2017.

Even though Niko presently trains and plays with Erin Mills Soccer Club, ANB Futbol Academy Director, Bassam Naim, worked with Le Havre AC and the young player’s family to secure an avenue for this Canadian athlete to pursue his professional aspirations.  Erin Mills Soccer Club is to be commended for developing his goalkeeping skills to such a high level.

Based on the latest FIFA transfer rules for minors, Niko is fortunate to hold dual citizenship (Canada and Croatia) which allows him to move to Europe to continue his futbol development.

“We are proud to have exposed Niko during the ANB ID Camp where many professional coaches & scouts are invited annually.  Le Havre AC has a great reputation in developing young players and it is great to see them select a young Canadian athlete to play in their prestigious academy.  We look forward to continued success for Niko,” says Academy Director, Bassam Naim.

Niko is eager for the move in October, 2017 saying, “I feel very excited and honoured to have this opportunity with such a great club like Le Havre.  I look forward to working even harder and taking my game to the next level.”

Additionally, Niko’s father, Tony feels privileged to have Le Havre recognize his son’s talents, “We’re extremely proud of Niko and all his accomplishments.  He has trained very hard for this moment.  We’d also like to thank ANB Futbol for the wonderful job they’ve done with the annual ANB Futbol ID Camp.”

ANB Futbol’s vision is to become Canada’s leading soccer development organization. Its mission is to identify Canadian soccer talent, and to maximize the potential of players at any level, through professional coaching and training.

SAAC Grads Reid, Awuah and Nanco selected in MLS SuperDraft

The 2017 MLS SuperDraft was held in Los Angeles, California on Friday, January 13th and it proved to be a great day for Canadian talent.

It was also a monumental moment for two former SAAC standouts. Kwame Awuah (Sigma FC) and Adonijah Reid (ANB Futbol) were selected to New York City FC and FC Dallas respectively.

Awuah, currently a full-back at UCONN, was selected 16th overall by NYCFC. New York did not initially hold the 16th overall selection, but traded $75K in general allocation money (GAM) to the current MLS Cup Champions, Seattle Sounders in order to obtain the pick.

“I’m really excited, I can’t wait to get started with the guys. I’ve watched a lot of NYCFC games, and just to play under a great coaching staff, a great fanbase and a great city is an opportunity I won’t let go to waste,” Awuah said to NYCFC.com

On the other hand, 17-year-old Adonijah Reid of ANB Futbol was selected 40th overall by FC Dallas. Reid was the youngest player in this years draft, while also being a member of this years Generation Adidas Canada class. Reid was a vital part of ANB’s U20 Academy Cup Final win at SAAC Champhionship Weekend in November.

Via an article by TSN, Reid praises ANB Futbol for a lot of his success. “I’ve been there for five years so they’ve been with me basically through all the years I’ve been trying to develop as a good player. And I couldn’t thank them enough for all the help in making me a professional.”

One day later, former Sigma FC striker Chris Nanco saw his wait come to an end as he was drafted 55th overall to the Philadelphia Union. He was currently playing for Syracuse.

We’d like to take this time to congratulate Kwame, Adonijah and Chris on being drafted into the MLS, and we wish them continued success throughout their professional career!

You can follow their progress via their social feeds: @ChrisNanco, @King_Nijah and @kayawuah.
