The number of SAAC Academy players graduating into Canadian National Team programs from our elite player pipeline continues to flow as three more Academy products were named to the full U20 Men’s National Team Camp taking place in Toronto.
Malik Smith (ANB Futbol), Adonijah Reid (ANB Futbol), and Reggie Laryea (Sigma FC) are part of the 30 man roster invited to the September camp for players born 1997 or later.
All three players have spent a number of years developing in the SAAC system and now feature regularly for their respective 1st team squads in League 1 Ontario. Reid, a 1999 born player and a 5 year Academy member of ANB Academy, is the league’s leading scorer after 17 games with 18 goals. Malik Smith is an imposing defender, also a member of ANB Academy since 2013, and Defender Laryea joins the National camp as an underage player, born in 1998 and a member of Sigma FC for 7 years.
This announcement, along with the fact that two Academy grads will be suiting up for the full Men’s National team in their FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifier vs Belize on Friday, are current indications of the success that SAAC Academies provide to aspiring top soccer players in Ontario. Ten years after the inception of SAAC, the very first standards based development system in Ontario, we are honoured to bring news on how SAAC Academies are contributing to our National Team programs and how the National teams’ coaches have taken notice and are actively scouting our players. The reputation of SAAC Member Academies to consistently develop elite talent is growing as more and more Academy players from our Elite Player Pipeline are on National Team coacher’s radars.
SAAC would like to wish the best of luck to these three players, with the confidence that they have been fully prepared for the task at hand by the excellent professionally accredited coaching staffs at their respective Academies.
